To All Our Friends in Los Angeles

If you live in the County or unincorporated areas of Los Angeles, call 562-940-6898. This is County dispatch. They are organized, responsive, and ready to help.

If you live in the city of Los Angeles, call 213 870-8155.

If you live in the City and you requested help, but no one has helped you to get into your house and check on your animals, or you know someone who this has happened to, please email me immediately: melya@vftafoundation.org.

Thomas & Roo

For 20 years, VFTA held our adoptions in the Palisades. We adopted out hundreds of cats and dogs to wonderful families. Recently, one of the families who adopted Roo and Thomas contacted us. They were not home when the fire began and so Roo and Thomas, both older cats, were left behind. They have tried numerous times to get back into their house to look for their beloved cats, but the National Guard said they were under strict orders not to allow anyone in.

If this was a child, would the orders be the same? I doubt it. How do we help people understand that our animals are part of our families? While it’s fine that there are phone numbers for people to call, it takes time. And time is what these animals DO NOT HAVE. They are starving and terrified. This is an urgent situation. Officials need to act with urgency!!

Please write your city councilperson, the Mayor and the Governor. Explain that it is heartless to not allow people to immediately look for their animals. These are people who have lost everything. And they need to be able to know their animals are safe. It is the very least the city can immediately do.
